Installing Washing Machine

To download your Washing Machine software, click the link in the e-mail you received at the time of purchase or by downloading the software from the Washing Machine website:  www.macwashingmachine.com

Once your download has completed, double-click the WashingMachine.dmg file.  By default, this file is located in your Downloads folder.  Please check your web browser preferences to confirm the location of downloaded files.

Now, simply double-click on the Washing Machine Installer.

Next, click on Install Washing Machine.

This will guide you through installing the Application.  You will be presented with a License Agreement and be asked for your computer's Administrator password.  Once Washing Machine has been successfully installed, you will see the following screen.

When you are finished installing Washing Machine, you will now find Washing Machine in the Applications > Intego folder.  Simply double-click the icon to open the application:

Serializing Software

When you launch the Washing Machine Application for the first time, the program will display its serialization window:

Enter your name or company and your serial number.  These fields are both required.  If you purchased a downloadable version of the software, your serial number was sent to you in e-mail confirmation.  When you have entered this information, click OK.  The program will now open.

Using Washing Machine in Evaluation Mode

Washing Machine offers an evaluation mode for all to discover how the program works before you make your purchase.  To use the evaluation mode, click "Evaluate" when the registration screen displays.

When Washing Machine runs in evaluation mode, it is fully-functional for 30 days.  Intego provides a demonstration version of it's software so users can try out the application to see if the software is compatible with their Macs and their needs.  The demonstration version is provided as an example of the program's features and functions, with the exception that the demonstration version cannot Clean or Tidy your computer.  At the end of this period, you can either purchase a serial number for the application or uninstall it from your computer.

You can find out how much time is left in your evaluation session by displaying the 'About Washing Machine' screen.  To do this, select About... from the Washing Machine main menu in the top left corner of the computer screen.  The About screen tells you that the program is in evaluation mode, and shows the time remaining.

Uninstalling Software

Proper removal of the software package requires using the Installer package located in your software bundle (WashingMachine.dmg).  If you have manually attempted to remove the software, you will need to first reinstall the software again, then use the same Installer package to properly remove the application.

When you open the disk image file, double-click on the Washing Machine Installer.

You will have the option to Uninstall Software.  Click on Uninstall Software.

When you click Uninstall Software, you will see a window with Washing Machine listed.  Place a check next to Washing Machine and click the Uninstall button.

You will be prompted to enter your computer's Administrator password to proceed.  Once you have entered the password, Washing Machine will be completely uninstalled from your computer.

Using NetUpdate

NetUpdate is an application used by other Intego programs to check for updates to the software.  It is installed when you install Washing Machine.

NetUpdate can carry out automatic checks at the frequency you choose, or you can manually check whenever you wish.

Setting up NetUpdate

You can launch NetUpdate by double-clicking the NetUpdate icon in your Applications > Intego folder:

The first time you use NetUpdate, you will need to enter your e-mail address and a password in NetUpdate's preferences.  The password can be anything you want it to be, and is used solely for identification purposes to our NetUpdate server:

Under the General tab, enter your e-mail address in the E-mail field, then enter a password in the Password field.  (This password must be from 4 to 31 characters.  Please do not use any special characters.)  Retype your password in the Verify password field to ensure it is correct.  Keep a record of this password in a safe place.

Checking for Updates

Washing Machine contains a 'Check for Updates...' option under the application name in the top menu bar:

You can also open NetUpdate from the Intego menu, which is in your menu bar:

No matter how you launch NetUpdate, the program connects to Intego's server to determine whether you have the latest version of Washing Machine installed.  If a new version is available, you will be able to download and install it using NetUpdate.

NetUpdate Preferences

NetUpdate offers several configuration options.  To set these options, open NetUpdate in one of the ways explained above then click the Preferences icon in the NetUpdate toolbar.

General Preferences

This tab lets you enter your e-mail address and password.

If you change e-mail addresses, you can enter a new address on this pane.  If the lock is closed, you will need an administrator's password to unlock it and enter your new address.

Intego Menu Preferences

You can have NetUpdate check for new software in two locations.  The default choice, 'Check for Updates on Intego's server', should be used in most cases.  With this choice you have two options:

Use the alternate NetUpdate port:  NetUpdate uses the standard HTTP port 80 to check for updates.  If this poses problems for any reason, you can choose to use port 8079.  In most cases you will not need to change this.

Keep downloaded updates in a local folder:  This allows you to store updates locally, and is useful if you are working on a network and have multiple user licenses for Intego products.  You can have your other Macs check for updates in that local folder anywhere on an AppleShare network.  If you do this, you'll want to choose 'Check for updates in local or network folder' from the Sources menu.

Advanced Preferences

E-mail notification and warning options are available under this tab:

Send me information about new Intego products:  Checking this box means that you allow Intego to use the e-mail address you register to send you occasional messages presenting it's new products.  (You can unsubscribe from these e-mails at any time)

Warn me when my subscriptions expire:  NetUpdate warns you when any subscriptions you may have expire.  After the first time this warning displays, you can turn off these reminders by unchecking this option.  If Washing Machine is your only Intego software installed, this feature is disabled.

Scheduling Preferences

You can set NetUpdate to check for new versions of your software automatically.  This pane allows you to choose the frequency for these checks.  It also shows the date and time of your last check and your next scheduled check:

Automatically check for updates

If you check this option, NetUpdate automatically connects to the NetUpdate server to check for updates.  If you do not check this option, you can manually check for updates by clicking the Check Now... button in the main display of the NetUpdate window.  Choose the frequency at which the updates will occur.  You can choose Daily, Weekly, or Monthly.

Automatically install antivirus definitions and filters

This feature only applies if you have other Intego software installed such as VirusBarrier or Family Protector.

Background Update

If you check this option, NetUpdate will attempt to update your software in the background. This will quit any programs that need to be updated, and prompt you to restart your computer if necessary.

Installed Updates

This pane shows a log of the updates you have made to your software.  Each update that NetUpdate has made is listed here.  For information on the update, click on one of the entires.  The version column displays the version numbers for programs.  Comments about any selected item are displayed in the bottom section of the window.
